Addressing Mental Health in Today’s Times
Nov 20, 2021
If you ask someone what they do to stay healthy, you will most likely get answers like dieting, exercise, rest etc. You can see that all these relate to physical health. We rarely see enough importance being given to mental health, especially in terms of overall wellness and quality of life. In today’s time and digital age, we looked at the current situation around mental health and how it is being perceived today.
When one looks into mental health, there are two types of factors that come into play the passive and the immediate. Looking at the immediate ones first, the first thing that comes to mind is the COVID-19 pandemic and the changes caused in both professional and personal lives. Due to the lockdown & increased social isolation, it has forced many people to adopt to unhealthy practices. Further, this has also led to psychological issues like increase in stress levels, loneliness due to physical/emotional isolation, depression, anxiety etc.
This new normal lifestyle during the covid times has made these issues difficult to ignore anymore and this requires a huge mindset change, which is neither easy nor quick!
Is everything lost, then? Of course not! What needs to be done is to look at the situation as an opportunity for positive change. We need to accept the new dynamics and adapt to the changing circumstances around us. Reassessing your strengths and weaknesses and learning new skills to sustain during these times is what is needed.
In keeping with this spirit, Truminds has an in-house counsellor and support system, which could be leveraged by the employees and they can approach to discuss any mental health-related issues they might be facing. This ensures that our employees get quick guidance on tackling any issues they face and thus, can take timely action to remedy the situation. Also, we believe in being proactive when it comes to mental health care for our employees, and we organize webinars and industry sessions by the specialists on regular basis along with regular open environment with the project teams for people to openly discuss about any issues they are facing.
Last but not the least, this is not an easy endeavor. Every single one of us will have to develop a support system and be a part of the system for others so that we can cope with the mental health crisis especially in today’s times when we operate in a very dynamic environment.
